Design Response Report
Design Respondent's Responsiblities:
1. Refer to the announcements from the circuit design coordinator and choose to respond to as many shows as possible in a prompt fashion. (Please keep in mind that the design response system can only exist through a fair exhange between institutions and and equal ratio students/respondents)
2. Gather all the information for each show prior to responding:
- Title, playwright and director's name
- Date and time of chosen performance
- Name of institution, address and/or maquest information of the location and contact person's information
- Name and email (if available) for each student, and area of design
3. Make sure that the coordinator contacts the person of respective institutions and confirm tickets for you, or provides you with contact information if you're not ready to confirm dates so you can request them at a later date. If you need to request an overnight stay, contact the regional chair.
4. If you choose to meet with the student prior to the show (that is entirely up to you), please make your request known to the contact person organizing your response.
5. Use the program to inform yourself on the show and its participants. Take generous notes on the design elements and don't limit yourself to one area. Sometime, if other student designers or stage managers are around, you might get an impromptu gathering. Having your thoughts written down will be invaluable!
6. Response: After the show, let the student initiate the contact by presenting you their work and discussing their concepts. Make your response as personable as possible, focus on the positive elements of the design work, make sure to allow space for the student to express their vision as well as question. Try to provide alternative scenarios to help them further develop their ideas and give them professional comparisons to help them connect with real-life experiences.
7. Provide each student, particularly first-timers, with festival participation information that should include a description of the elements of the student design to be presented. |
