I'm very excited to invite you to the 43rd Annual KCACTF Region VIII Festival, February 8-12, 2011.

Day One - Hollywood
Tuesday will be hosted by Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy (a couple of subway stops from Downtown Los Angeles). This day will be filled with activity based workshop focusing on translating theatre skills to Hollywood careers. The evening will provide opportunities to explore Hollywood, California.

Day Two - Day Five
Wednesday through Saturday events will be shared between the host hotel and the Los Angeles Theatre Center in downtown Los Angeles, California.

This year we are trying a new model for the presentation of our regional festival. Given the economy and the short lead time, finding a school or university to host was not possible. Several schools expressed an interest but ultimately it was determine that they didn't have the necessary facilities. As a Los Angeles theatre artist, I decided to look in my neighborhood and approached the managing director at the Los Angeles Theatre Center. The facilities include a Grand Lobby, Four Theatres, Two Rehearsal Space, A Dance Studio, A Scene Shop, and a Costume Shop. Detail Information as well as a virtual tour can be found at www.thelatc.org/latc-rentals/. After explaining our needs they have agreed to rent their facilities discounted for a non-profit. Since we will be renting we will be increasing the registrations fees slightly. Registration prior to January 15th will be $75.00 and after that date they will be $95.00. A single day pass will be available for $30.00.

In order to help reduce the cost for both the region and for traveling schools, I have scheduled all competitive events within Day Two through Day Five. Registration as well as the design exhibit load-in will begin Tuesday evening.

In addition to the usual conference events, we are also hoping to partner with Cirque Du Soleil. Cirque Du Soleil will be opening their new show at the Kodak Theatre later (http://www.kodaktheatre.com/cirque_press.htm) which is a short Metro ride from the downtown theatre location to Hollywood. The show won't open until after the 2011 Academy Awards but hopefully we'll get a glimps on the backstage prep work.
