You are invited to be part of one of KCACTF's most popular events. Original plays will be cast, rehearsed, and performed during festival week. Open auditions will be held Tuesday, February 9th. Please fill out a sheet for every show you plan to audition for bring it with you to the audition. We recommend auditioning for no more than three plays

Craigslist Last Posts/Last Days by Eric Czuleger, California State University, Fullerton

A voice speaks around the earth in every language, to every person. The world will end after the passing ofthree full moons. Join us for the last posts on Craigslist.
Fatima & Maama by Asher Wyndham, Arizona State University
Director: Douglas Hill, University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Fatima, a 15 year–old Iraqi–American in Michigan, wants to attend the Homecoming Dance in order to impress some bullies. Her mother says no. The divide between modern daughter and traditional mother widens, as the trauma of economic hardship and racism is exposed.
Characters:
Fatima Halawani, 15 year-old Iraqi American. Not bi-racial. Loves dancing. Wears the hijab and big geeky eyeglasses. Can be played by someone who looks young.
Maama, her traditional mother, late 30s-40. She is dishevelled and tired. Works at the Fuel Shop.

The Chair by Scott M. Stringham, Utah Valley University
Director: Robert Yowell, Northern Arizona University
A man, Browning, stands guard over a solitary chair. Reiser enters, and the two men enter a weaving dialogue about the chair and the law. Browning gets upset as Reiser spins crafty philosophical arguments to entrap him. After a few minutes, Browning cannot take it anymore and assaults Reiser, who gets the upper hand. Reiser spouts off about the drudgery of life as he holds Browning in a choke hold. Browning passes out and dies during the rant. Horrified, Reiser rolls the body away; he then removes Browning’s coat and puts it on, then takes Reiser’s place
guarding the chair. The play ends when a Man enters and asks to sit down.
Character:
Browning, A family man, working as a guard. A drone in the system.
Reiser, A free-thinking traveler.
Man, A traveler. [NOTE: All three men should be approximately the same age; the older, the better.]

The Play by Chantel Magistro, Utah Valley University
Director: Julie Holston, Southern Mountain Community College
Two thespians are performing badly in a 1930s play. A displeased audience member decides to take matters into his own hands and begins to narrate the show. The actors find that they have no choice but to do as his narrations dictate.
Characters
Man, Audience member who gets bored and starts to narrate the play he is watching. He is confident that his opinions of what should happen in the play are correct.
Actor, Actor in the play being watched by the MAN. He is a bad actor who is playing a detective. Has two personas, one is his character in The Play within The Play; the other is his personality when he breaks character.
Dame, Lady seeking detective
for help. She is a good actor. She deceptively plays like an unintelligent damsel in distress, but is actually leading on the detective for her own interests.
Scar Faced Bill, He is the bad guy in the play.
He has an unpleasant accent. He is a wanted criminal. (Also plays the SOVIET SPY)
Soviet Spy, A spy in a hurry to figure out what certain code words mean. He is a side character, who is only on stage for one line.

Will, a playwright, has a computer that is capable of making anything he types into
reality. He controls his secretary, Rosaline, until the computer malfunctions and she
becomes aware of what he’s doing. Will learns that trying to control the things in your life will leave you with nothing in the end.
Characters:
Will, A controlling playwright in his mid-thirties.
Rosaline, A subservient secretary who discovers her inner strength; twenties.

If given the chance to erase your past, would you? Would you light it up and watch it burn? Erase the tears and pain? Would you? Or is there something stronger inside of us? Giving us strength to go on. Watch as Markee and Kells walk through their lives from age 1 to ‘Twenty–4’.
Characters
Markee, a strong African American man searching for healing in a vicious world is
equally as important as a stick that pounds the ground with hate.
Kells, a beautiful young Mexican woman searching for meaning in life.
